KEVIN Rudd’s beloved cat Jasper has died.

The former prime minister has been tweeting about Jasper’s poor health during the cat’s myriad visits to the vet in recent weeks. “Our much loved family member Jasper the cat passed away yesterday at home,” Mr Rudd tweeted today.

“Thanks from me, Therese and our kids for all your well wishes in recent months while our little guy was battling on.”

Jasper was immortalised, alongside the family’s golden retriever Abby, in a picture book written by Mr Rudd and actor Rhys Muldoon.

Jasper and Abby and the Great Australia Day Kerfuffle was published in February 2010.
