Candidates, parties and outward groups spent a record $6 billion on elections in 2012, adult $700 million from a prior record of $5.3 billion in 2008, driven by roughly $1 billion in outward spending, 3 times a volume shelled out 4 years ago.
And of that, some-more than $300 million was spent by groups not compulsory by law to divulge their donors.
