Brooks and Whitner returned interceptions for touchdowns, a 49ers sacked Drew Brees 5 times, and San Francisco finished a New Orleans Saints' three-game winning streak, 31-21, on Sunday.

Colin Kaepernick was plain in his second career start while Alex Smith, deemed healthy adequate to fit adult after recuperating from a concussion, watched from a sideline. Kaepernick upheld for 231 yards, including a brief touchdown to Frank Gore, and ran for a 7-yard score. He also threw his initial career interception, though it was inconsequential.
