The detachment towards who would win was demoralising. On a tables around mine,
there was a late swell of support for Jessie Ware – whose album, Devotion,
was one of a some-more cutting-edge of those in a using – though nobody seemed
to caring too belligerently. When Alt-J won for their manuscript of intricate,
egghead indie, there was a tiny hearten and everybody clapped with slight
grimaces on their faces. "Fair enough, it's a good record," we all pronounced to
one another.
For those not imminently compulsory to write something for their newspapers or
magazines, there was speak of afterparties, though we didn't go – somehow, I
doubted there'd be many crushed guitars or TVs
