Thousands line Melbourne Cup parade

Melbourne Cup favourite Americain came behind opposition Dunaden in a Melbourne Cup march though owners Kevin Bamford wasn’t worried.

‘We can live with it today,’ he pronounced as a march got underway in Melbourne on Monday.

Dunaden took out final year’s Cup while Americain, leader in 2010, finished fourth.

Mr Bamford knows a fortifying Cup champion is his biggest threat, though he also has his eyes on competitors who have crossed a seas to race.

‘All a imports we don’t know about,’ he pronounced when asked who he saw as a biggest threat.

Master tutor Bart Cummings, who has dual runners as he chases a 13th Cup win with Sanagas and Precedence, had no such concerns.
