OBE-Wan Kenobi: Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor delighted by New Year honour

The force is clever with Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor – after he landed an OBE in a New Year Honours List.

McGregor, who played a immature Obi-Wan Kenobi in 3 of a sci-fi blockbusters, has been awarded for services to play and charity.

He is among a list of stars set to be given gongs by a Queen including thespian Kate Bush, artist Tracey Emin, former Strictly decider Arlene Phillips and Hustle actor Adrian Lester.

Illustrator Quentin Blake is removing a knighthood, conform engineer Stella McCartney an OBE, ex-England cricketer Mark Ramprakash an MBE and violinist Nicola Benedetti an MBE.

Trainspotting star McGregor, who has been concerned in gift work for years, said: "I'm gay and overwhelmed to be on a New Year's Honours List."
