The Kennedy Center Honors: Seven recipients and a whole lotta love

As usual, a Honors — partial behaving humanities carnival, partial hall-of-fame initiation ceremony, partial fundraiser and fancy-schmancy cooking — had a small something for a honorees and a lot for everybody else.

There were TV stars saluting a TV luminary (Letterman); artistic dancing (in reverence to honoree Natalia Makarova); a good film actor, Robert DeNiro, attesting to a chops of an behaving idol (Hoffman); rough blues (for Guy); and even raucous-er classical stone (for Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones).

President Obama, during pre-ceremony remarks during a White House, remarkable rightly that such an doubtful collection of artists "had no business being on a same theatre together" and that his speechwriters had struggled to find a well-spoken transition from "ballet to Led Zeppelin."
