Commentators have delivered their verdicts on a primary minister’s debate and strategy. Here is a round-up:

Writing in a Daily Mail Sir Max Hastings described it as “almost certainly” a best debate of Mr Cameron’s life, “delivered with a passion so mostly blank from his performances”.

“He over a inaugural avocation of a primary apportion by articulating each stress felt by his people about Europe.”

Also in a Daily Mail, Simon Heffer – who has formerly been strongly vicious of Mr Cameron – counts a ways in that a PM “outfoxed his foes”.
