NSW govt anti-binge drinking ad criticised

The $1.4 million government campaign, Know When to Say When, which was launched over the Australia Day weekend, will see a roll-out of television, print, radio and online advertising asking people: “When have you had enough?”

The advertising blitz comes on the back of NSW Health statistics that show the number of 15 to 17 year olds attending emergency departments for acute alcohol problems across the state has almost doubled in the decade between 2001 and 2011.

Minister for Mental Health and Healthy Lifestyles Kevin Humphries said it was time to change people’s attitudes.

“We can no longer afford to ignore the consequences of the Australian binge drinking culture,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
