VATICAN CITY—One of Roman Catholicism’s many successful churchmen called on Catholics to combine behind a subsequent pope on Tuesday, as cardinals prepared to accumulate inside a Sistine Chapel and elect a new pontiff.

The world’s Cardinals assemble in Sistine Chapel currently to start voting for a new pope.
