Chad says it killed Algeria hostage mastermind in Mali

N’DJAMENA (Reuters) – Chadian soldiers in Mali have killed Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a al Qaeda commander who masterminded a bloody hostage-taking during an Algerian gas plant in January, Chad’s infantry pronounced on Saturday.

The genocide of one of a world’s many wanted jihadists would be a vital blow to al Qaeda in a segment and to Islamist rebels already forced to rush towns they had seized in northern Mali by an descent by French and African troops.
