French hostage in Mali killed, say militants

Islamist kidnappers have killed a French warrant in Mali, according to a news on a website of al-Qaida‘s north African branch.

The Noukachott Information Agency, or ANI, pronounced Philippe Verdon had been killed. The ANI website is frequently used by al-Qaida in a Islamic Maghreb (Aqim) to post messages. It was not probable to exclusively determine a explain and a French unfamiliar method had no evident comment.

ANI quoted a male who identified himself as Ghairawani , a orator for Aqim, as observant Verdon was killed on 10 Mar “in response to a French infantry involvement in a north of Mali”. Verdon and another Frenchman had been kidnapped from their hotel room in eastern Mali in Nov 2011.
