The man accused of the rape and murder of ABC staffer Jill Meagher has been charged with two more rapes.

Sexual Crimes Squad detectives have charged Adrian Ernest Bayley, 41, with two sexual assaults in the St Kilda area last year.

Bayley is charged with murdering and raping Ms Meagher, 29, who disappeared following a night out on Sydney Road in Brunswick, last September. He is contesting those charges and a two-day committal hearing is due in March.

The new charges include rape, false imprisonment and intentionally cause injury, from an alleged assault on April 5, 2012 in Elwood.

Bayley has also been charged with rape and false imprisonment from an alleged assault on July 15, 2012 in Balaclava.

Bayley was recently charged in relation to another alleged assault in St Kilda in November 2000. Police are appealing for a good Samaritan – a young woman driving a dark blue Hyundai Excel or similar car, with sheep skin seat covers who helped the victim of that incident – to come forward.

The new charges from Elwood and Balaclava are listed for a filing hearing on March 8 at Melbourne Magistrates Court.
