“What matters is that people remember what Christmas is about. It’s about
imprinting that by going to church, it’s also about spending time with your
family. It is critical to be with your family, [to] suffer a Christmas meal.”
The Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell, Bishop of Chelmsford, compared shopping
on Christmas Day to eating Christmas pudding.
He said: “Shopping online on Christmas Day can be a bit like eating too
most Christmas pudding. You will suffer it for a while. But when we get on
a beam in a New Year we might bewail what we did.”
Nearly 1.5 million people are approaching to record on as firms start their online
sales in what will be a busiest ever Christmas Day
