The communications regulator has redoubled efforts to take down child abuse images posted online, unveiling new plans to notify authorities in countries where the illicit material is produced.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority, which handles thousands of complaints about online material annually, currently reports illicit images to authorities in the country where a child abuse image or website is hosted, for removal.
But under new agreements signed last month with the Australian Federal Police, the ACMA will begin notifying authorities in the countries where the material is believed to have been produced.
