Senate works into weekend as fiscal cliff looms

(CBS News) WASHINGTON – With only dual days left, Senate leaders are still struggling to put together a last-minute bipartisan understanding forward of Monday’s midnight deadline for a mercantile cliff. Failure could flog a nation behind into a recession.

On Saturday, a halls of a Senate were roughly empty, as proposals got traded ideas got traded in private and by phone.

Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell attempted to sound upbeat. Asked if he was going to get a understanding by a reporter, McConnell replied: “I wish so.”
